Comments

When you leave a comment on our website, we collect the information entered in the comment form, your IP address and your browser’s user agent to help us detect unwanted comments.

An anonymised string created from your email address, also known as a hash, may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you use it. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment has been approved, your profile picture will be publicly visible alongside it.

Media

If you upload images to the website, we recommend avoiding images that contain EXIF data with GPS coordinates. Visitors can download these images and extract their location data.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our website, you can choose to save your name, email address and website in cookies. This is for your convenience, so you do not have to enter the information again when leaving another comment. These cookies expire after one year.

If you visit the login page, a temporary cookie will be set to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is automatically deleted when you close your browser.

When you log in, we set several cookies to store your login information and display preferences. Login cookies last for two days, while display preference cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember me”, your login cookie will remain for two weeks. When you log out of your account, the login cookie is deleted.

If you edit or publish a post, an additional cookie is stored in your browser. It contains no personal data and simply records the ID of the post you have just edited. It expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this website may include embedded content, such as videos, images and articles. Embedded content from other websites behaves as though you were visiting the other website directly.

Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking tools and monitor your interactions with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to their website.

Use and sharing of your personal data

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows us to recognise and approve later comments automatically rather than holding them in the moderation queue.

For accounts registered on our website, where registration is available, we also store the personal information provided in the profile. Registered users can view, edit or delete their personal information at any time, except for their username. Website administrators can also view and edit this information.

Your rights over your data

If you have an account or have left comments on the website, you can request a file containing all the personal data we hold about you, including the data you have provided. You can also request that we delete your personal data. This excludes data we must keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated service for detecting unwanted comments.

This website uses the Complianz Privacy Suite for WordPress to collect and record consent based on the browser and device. For this feature, your IP address is anonymised and stored in our database. The service does not process information that can identify a person and does not share data with the service provider. For further information, see Complianz’s privacy statement.
